Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan – Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev – participated on Monday in the discussion with the participation of the foreign ministers of the OSCE Co-Chairing states: Secretary of State John Kerry, Russian FM Sergey Lavrov and State Secretary for European Affairs of France Harlem Desir.
The meeting was also attended by foreign ministers Edward Nalbandian and Elmar Mammadyarov, Ambassadors Igor Popov, James Warlick, Pierre Andrieu and personal representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Anjey Kasprzyk.
Tense situation created as a result of gross violation of the ceasefire regime in early April and the ways to overcome it were discussed. Representatives of the co-chairing states insisted on implementation of the 1994 and 1995 agreements.
An agreement was reached on the steps in the direction of monitoring their implementation, and the implementation of mechanisms for investigating incidents, on expansion of the capabilities of the personal representative of the OSCE chairperson-in-office, as well as in the direction of a possible resumption of the negotiations.
