YEREVAN. – Soldier Arayik Ordubekyan, 19, who had fallen on September 2 in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh), was laid to rest Tuesday in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan.

Anahit Ispiryan, a neighbor of the Ordubekyan family, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that Arayik and his father, Samvel Ordubekyan, had served at the border together and defended the Armenian border during the four-day war which Azerbaijan had unleashed against Artsakh, in early April.

“A year ago, they went to Artsakh to live there,” she added. 

As reported earlier, Arayik Ordubekyan was drafted into the army in the summer of 2015.

The NKR Ministry of Defense press service informed that Arayik Ordubekyan had died under circumstances that had taken place during the execution of a military task.

And with a decree by NKR President Bako Sahakyan, Artsakh Defense Army serviceman Ordubekyan was posthumously awarded with the Medal for Service in Battle, and in recognition of his bravery during the defense of the NKR state border.

To note, the mother of the fallen military serviceman gave birth to her eighth child, on the evening of September 3.

Arayik’s mother was informed of her son’s death on September 3, and she immediately was taken to hospital, where she gave birth—with a Caesarean section—to baby girl.

The Ordubekyan couple already had seven children.
