YEREVAN. – Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia, on Saturday is celebrating the 2798th anniversary of its foundation.

This year’s Erebuni[i.e. the ancient name of Yerevan]-Yerevan celebrations will be held under the title, “City of the Sun.”

As per the Yerevan Municipality, this year’s Yerevan Day events will be plainer and simpler, and they will be held solely on one day.

The municipality has cut the 2016 Yerevan anniversary celebration budget in half, as compared to that of the year past. This year’s celebrations will not include the traditional festive concert at Republic Square in the heart of Yerevan, and the parade outside the main building of Yerevan Municipality.

The Erebuni-Yerevan festivities have become traditional ever since 1983, but they were not held between 1991 and 1998.
