YEREVAN. – Turkey is not a co-chair country in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group, the co-chair can be changed solely by consensus, whereas the Armenian side is against it.

Vice President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Eduard Sharmazanov, on Monday told the abovementioned to reporters in Parliament. He noted this reflecting on Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s recent statement that Turkey could play a positive role in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict.

Sharmazanov noted that, first, he wishes to reaffirm the Armenian side’s respective position: Turkey has nothing to do in the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) peace process.

“Let me remind Mr. Lavrov his own view, which he had expressed on April 22 in [Armenia’s capital city of] Yerevan, that Turkey’s demeanor during the four-day war [, which Azerbaijan had unleashed against Artsakh, in early April,] was not a call for peace, but for war,” he said.

The Armenian parliament deputy speaker noted that, over the course of these years, Turkey has manifested a position that is exclusively criminal, pro-Azerbaijani, and war-provoking.

“Both Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic will never agree that Turkey have any role in the [conflict] settlement,” added Eduard Sharmazanov.
