YEREVAN. – If I will not be on the RPA proportional list, then I will not be there.

Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan stated the above-said at his press conference on Friday, when asked whether he will take part in the parliamentary election campaign of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).

The matter of whether Karapetyan is eligible to run for a parliamentary seat in the forthcoming election is widely discussed in the Armenian media, since he has not resided permanently in the Republic of Armenia (RA) in last four years, which the country’s election law requires for an MP candidate. 

“I’m an RA citizen; I lived outside of [capital city] Yerevan in recent years,” noted the PM. “Do my days of residence [in Armenia] meet with the limiting number so that I can be on the RPA list? Or not? I don’t know the answer to this question. But I will say one thing: if I can’t, then I will not be on the list.”
