YEREVAN. - The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) sees no political obstacle in cancelling the election day.

The RPA Spokesman and Deputy Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly (NA), Eduard Sharmazanov, told the aforementioned to journalists after the RPA Board session on Thursday.

According to him, President Serzh Sargsyan said this during the session.

''These days we saw some of our partners from different parties make their proposals regarding the election day, since that day [also] marks the first anniversary of the four-day war. Of course, the lawyers note that the decision on the election day does not contradict the Constitution and the Family Code but we think the following: April 2 is the day of national unity, consolidation and the memorial day of our boys.  It can be the first anniversary of achievements in the sphere of army building. If all the political players agree to extend the election day by several days, the RPA sees no political obstacle here,'' Sharmazanov noted, adding that they are ready to discuss that issue with all the political forces.

Earlier, the Armenian National Congress (ANC) and other political forces urged the RPA to change the election day, since that day marks the first anniversary of the April war, this making it legally and morally wrong to set the election day on April 2.
