YEREVAN. – The agreement on Russian arms supplies is carried out in accordance with schedule, said Defense Minister of Armenia, Vigen Sargsyan, at a press conference on Friday.

In his words, over the course of the year past, the frontline was supplemented by military equipment and monitoring systems.

Sargsyan added, however, that he cannot say anything about the types of arms received, since this is confidential information.

“I can only say that a part [of these weapons] already has been transferred to the armed forces of Armenia,” noted the minister. “The rest is done according to schedule.”

In his words, although negotiations will continue with respect to continuing this program, Armenia is seeking opportunities for meeting its military equipment needs from other markets, too, in addition to the Russian market.

Vigen Sargsyan stressed that the events of April last year—when Azerbaijan had unleashed a large-scale military aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh)—also attest to the combat-readiness of the Armenian army.

“The matter is something else,” added the Armenian defense minister. “We must be able to solve the strategic and tactical tasks. We need to look ahead, and the armed forces must develop faster than the situation.”
