YEREVAN. – If the European Union's presence in Armenia is unwanted anymore, we will not impose on it, Head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski told reporters on Tuesday.
He noted that the EU provided large and substantial financial aid, more than €7 million, to Armenian parliamentary elections.
According to the Ambassador, 90% external financing transferred to Armenia came from the EU. He added that new technologies would not have been acquired without this help.
Switalski noted that the financial support is the least that EU did to make elections in Armenia better than before.
“And I want to make it clear: everything was done by an open request of the Armenian authorities,” Switalski said.
He said that they have never tried to force something. The Ambassador emphasized that the EU respects the sovereign choice of Armenia, nothing will be conducted without the will of the country.
