Nothing happens in the case of the second president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, and this is an obvious violation of human rights, Robert Kocharyan’s lawyer Aram Orbelyan told reporters on Wednesday.

The lawyer recalled that after the well-known decision of the Court of Appeal to return the case to the first instance, as well as after the suspension of the powers of the judge in the case of David Grigoryan, a new judge was not appointed, and the process stopped.

In fact, the former president was arrested indefinitely, unable to appeal the decision on his arrest. “This is a violation of human rights. And no matter who exactly, what authority violates - the court, the prosecutor’s office or someone else, it’s important that the state does this without providing a natural process,” he said.

According to the lawyer, in addition to seven appeals to the ECHR, they are considering the possibility of applying to the UN Human Rights Committee and further domestic steps. The lawyer highlighted the illegitimacy of the arrest of Robert Kocharyan under the article, the constitutionality of which is considered by the Constitutional Court, as well as actions against Judge David Grigoryan, especially since the Court of Appeal found the search in the judge’s office unacceptable.

Lawyer Hovhannes Khudoyan noted that Robert Kocharyan’s defense requires the fulfillment of the rights of the client and the continuation of the public trial.
