YEREVAN. – We had a different vision of vetting, but now that burden rests with the Commission on Prevention of Corruption. Edmon Marukyan, head of the opposition Bright Armenia faction in parliament, said this in a conversation with reporters in the National Assembly today.

He expressed hope that this newly established commission would do its utmost in this regard.

Referring to the observation that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that there is no more corruption in Armenia, Marukyan responded that there is always corruption and it exists in all countries. "The level of corruption and public perception is something else," he stressed. “Public perception of corruption is still very high, but, for example, there is no systemic, one-point governed corruption in Armenia today. Today there is corruption at lower levels. Do we have any information today that a minister is corrupt? Once we have it, I'll talk about it from the podium. There is this political will at the government level, and now it has to be lowered to the level of the lowest authorities, too, which is very difficult. We have been engaged, we are engaged, and we must continue to be engaged in this work."

Today, the first meeting of the Commission on Prevention of Corruption took place, where Haykuhi Harutyunyan, the candidate proposed by Bright Armenia, was elected chair of the commission.
