The Republic of Armenia has shown political will for the fight against and prevention of corruption at such a scale for the first time in its history. This is what newly elected chairperson of the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption Haykuhi Harutyunyan declared during the Commission’s session today.

According to her, the Commission was set up based on political consensus. “If we consider the past attempts for the fight against corruption, we need to clearly show that the main reason for the failed attempts was the lack of political will.

Both the ruling party and the political opposition have assumed responsibility for this, and the principle of checks and balances has been maintained, that is, there are members from government, parliament and the Supreme Judicial Council,” Harutyunyan emphasized.

As reported earlier, Haykuhi Harutyunyan was elected chairperson of the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption by the majority of votes and was nominated by the Bright Armenia faction.
