YEREVAN. – Cultural workers have exercised their rights under the Constitution. Lilit Makunts, head of the majority My Step faction said this in a conversation with reporters in the National Assembly of Armenia today, referring to the statement by 60 cultural figures about the need to release second President Robert Kocharyan.

"I do not see any problem that the cultural figures in the Republic of Armenia are taking any action by taking advantage of their freedom of speech, taking advantage of the opportunity to mediate in the legal field," Makunts said. “One incomprehensible thing here is that Russia-based cultural figures and individual journalists are showing such activeness in voicing their position. It is incomprehensible because we have never witnessed any issue on their part."

She noted that there are some Armenians in Russia who are wanted, but the said Russia-based Armenian figures have not expressed any positive or negative stance in this regard. "Or, we have not witnessed any position on, let’s say, national security issues of Armenia."
