YEREVAN. - Teachers and the parents of pupils of the Vagharshapat town school named after Garegin Nzhdeh have come to the Armenian government building today to hand a letter to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The reason is the appointment of a new school principal, whom the teaching staff and parents disagree with.
Speaking to Armenian News-NEWS.am, the parents said the situation at the school was still tense and that they were preparing to take their children out of this school.
"Two hundred parents have signed that if newly appointed principal Shushanik Voskanyan is not dismissed, they will take the children out of the school and take to another school," said one parent. "We also brought these signatures to the government."
Now former principal Yester Galstyan had received 4 votes in the contest for principal selection at this school that was held on December 2, whereas Shushanik Voskanyan had received 3 votes, but Voskanyan was appointed principal.
Subsequently, the school’s teachers and students went on strike and boycotted classes, and the kids’ parents had blocked the school entrance and not permitted the new principal from entering.
