YEREVAN. – The prime minister of Armenia is accused of preparing to hand over land, but there is no such thing. Analyst Karen Bekaryan said this at a conference today, and regarding the Karabakh negotiation process.

"How do you explain to people that that handing over of land is not the switch whose button you press, it switches on and off? And the question is not that anyone is now saying, 'Prime Minister, you are handing land now, you are signing a document;' the issue is completely different,” he added. “You can lead the negotiation process in a way that after you there will be no return of interests to the negotiating table for decades. You can create a situation where it’s not enough the protection of interests will be quite difficult, and your consolidation inside will directly fail and all will serve against your interests. Now is this the same as giving the land with that switch? That is, the same manipulation does not allow looking at the issue from this side."

He cited an example in which first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan stepped down from power, reaching agreeing to a phased solution to the Karabakh conflict.

Bekaryan said that this is not the package to our dream resolution.

"But if you remember where you started and where you have come, you understand the dynamics, so your work has yielded results," he added. “Now we are in a completely opposite phase. We are now proceeding to overthrow the achieved results one by one. For objective or subjective reasons, our authorities have today created a situation in the negotiation process that later, years may not be enough to get back to the point we were standing before the coming of these authorities."

According to Bekaryan, the negotiation process, the settlement process has never interested the person who has come to power with his teammates.
