YEREVAN. – We mostly have had only achievements with the army over these 28 years, whereas the shortcomings, which have also been with losses, of course, it is a country at war, and there can also be losses. Armen Sargsyan, the brother of supreme commander and former Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan and Adviser to the Minister of Defense of Armenia, said this in a conversation with reporters today at Yerablur Military Pantheon.
"But if we compare with our enemy, we are in a quite good situation," he added. “In terms of shortcomings, I can only recall the situation in the April [2016] war; the losses cost very dear to us, but we have won in quantitative terms.
For the future, everything is done to make our army more prosperous, stronger, more modern, equipped with new equipment day by day, in both moral and psychological and military equipment terms. So, the Ministry of Defense is one of the ministries that fully fulfill their tasks assigned by the Prime Minister and the President."
Sargsyan positively assessed the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) conflict settlement process.
"The settlement of the Artsakh issue is possible only through peaceful means; I don't see a settlement through war,” he said. "I see it only through negotiations."
Armen Sargsyan does not share the criticism that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan does not have a conceptual approach toward the Artsakh issue.
"I do not agree with these criticisms, and I do not think today the Prime Minister does not want a peaceful settlement today," he explained. "He does everything depending on him so that we can achieve the desired result."
