March 19th marks the end of the six-month term prescribed for appointment of the acting police chief of Armenia and the acting director of the National Security Service of Armenia by law, meaning that the Prime Minister needs to make appointments before the term ends. This is what independent MP Arman Babajanyan stated during a question-and-answer session with government officials in parliament today. He also asked the Prime Minister to assess the work of the Police and National Security Service and whether the Prime Minister had decided to appoint the acting officials to their respective posts or not.

In response, the Prime Minister said he has a decision and will announce it on March 19th. As far as the work of the two institutions is concerned, the Prime Minister said the following: “I believe there are problems in Armenia’s law-enforcement system that need to be solved in a coordinated manner. However, I wouldn’t hold the acting police chief and the acting director of the National Security Service responsible for this. Moreover, there are problems in the entire public administration system.”
