Pope Francis has celebrated Easter Mass in the near-empty St. Peter's Basilica, BBC News reported.
The pontiff addressed people with appeal amid the coronavirus pandemic.
He urged not to "yield to fear", calling on them to be "messengers of life in a time of death".
About 1.3 billion Catholics watched the Easter service live.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte thanked the Pope for his "gesture of responsibility" in marking Easter without a congregation.
