YEREVAN. – If I now say that My Step will vote for or against stripping Gagik Tsarukyan of [parliamentary] immunity, it means that the Prosecutor General's coming to the National Assembly [(NA)] is meaningless. Alen Simonyan, NA Vice Speaker and member of the majority My Step faction in parliament, stated this in a talk with journalists in the legislature Monday, when asked how My Step will vote if the attorney general comes to the NA Tuesday and asks the MPs to strip parliamentary opposition Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) leader, MP, and business tycoon Gagik Tsarukyan of his parliamentary immunity.
"The prosecutor must come, present the basis on which why we are for or against. He might come, say something that, in reality, you can't even vote for. Do you want me to say something in advance? Of course, there is no decision [at the My Step faction]. To the surprise of many, the [incumbent] halls of power of the Republic of Armenia have acted and will act according to the law. We have nothing to fear because the citizens of the Republic of Armenia have delegated to us to do that," Simonyan added.
