During the session of the Professional Commission on Constitutional Reforms, chairperson Yeghishe Kirakosyan presented the activities that the Commission has carried out since February 2020 and stated that the discussions have been held remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Kirakosyan emphasized that the Commission has held thorough discussions on the major issues specified by the Prime Minister and considered cooperation with international partners and advisory support. He added that the Commission continues to hold active discussions on the items on the agenda and expects to hold public deliberations and have a concept paper ready in late December 2020, after which the draft of the Constitutional Reforms will be ready in June 2021.

The members of the Commission shared their comments and agreed that the constitutional reforms need to be made with the logic of restoration of the organic link between citizens and state order, independence of the judiciary, guarantee of transparency of electoral mechanisms and other fundamental approaches.

Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed gratitude for the activities carried out remotely and wished the Commission success.
