YEREVAN. – Today I learned that I had to be questioned as a witness in two different, unrelated criminal cases, and today, at the beginning of the Council of Elders session, a representative of the criminal department handed me the notice. Davit Khazhakyan, head of the opposition Luys faction of the Yerevan Council of Elders, on Wednesday noted this outside the police general department of criminal cases, before entering for the questioning.

"The case concerns the Luys faction's [service] car attached by law, which, of course, has a driver who carries out the car’s service. And the driver was taken out of the house early in the morning, brought to the criminal department, and later his wife was called there. And the nature of the questions, and perhaps also the result that the police expected was that he is a fictitiously-registered driver, and who gets the money, what does he do. They started asking questions about me, and so on." Khazhakyan said.

 According to him, however, he has no worries about this issue, as there is no basis.

As per the Yerevan municipal council member, taking into account what this case is about and what they are trying to accuse him of, he realizes that the incumbent authorities are facing a very serious problem. "The driver, who has nothing to do with the [opposition] Bright Armenia Party, does his job, and the pressure in that regard is aimed at us," Khazhakyan said.

"I am convinced that it may be upon the instructions of one person, [PM] Nikol Pashinyan, who seems to be very upset (…). I want to grasp to what extent the halls of power are worried about their situation that they are resorting to such things,” Davit Khazhakyan added.
