Armenian News - NEWS.am presents a daily digest of Armenia-related top news as of 26.06.2020:

·       A total of 759 COVID-19 new cases have been reported in Armenia, bringing the total number to 23,247.

The death toll in the country has reached 410.

The total number of tests conducted so far is 105,046.

According to the latest data, 12,149 people have recovered thus far.

·       Some more Armenian MPs - My Step faction MP Hakob Simidyan and My Step MP Aren Mkrtchyan - have tested positive for COVID-19, Lilit Minasyan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armenian parliament told NEWS.am.

Minasyan added she was also informed by the press today that COVID-19 had been confirmed also in Arman Abovyan, secretary of the opposition Prosperous Armenia faction, and Prosperous Armenia MP Iveta Tonoyan.

Earlier, My Step four MPs, as well as parliament's vice president Vahe Enfiajyan have confirmed their positive results.

·       Europe has faced an increase in weekly COVID-19 cases for the first time in months as restrictions are eased, BBC reported referring to the World Health Organization (WHO).

In 11 countries, including Armenia, Sweden, Moldova, and Northern Macedonia, accelerated transmission has led to "very significant resurgence", said Regional Director Dr. Hans Henri Kluge.

According to him, his warnings about the risk of resurgence became a reality. And if nothing is done, health systems would be "pushed to the brink".

·       Armenia is not on the draft list of countries that will be allowed to enter the EU when the borders reopen.

The EU and the Schengen area plan to reopen their borders as of July 1.

There are 54 countries on the aforesaid draft list, Euronews reported.

According to diplomatic sources, however, there have been disagreements between the countries regarding the criteria used for the adoption of this decision, and some even claim that the COVID-19 data are not reliable in some countries.

·       Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to his Facebook on Friday night to share an update on the constitutional amendments regarding the Constitutional Court (CC) of Armenia.

Minutes after midnight, the PM wrote: "The constitutional amendments came into force. From now on, Hrayr Tovmasyan is not the president of the CC, and Felix Tokhyan, Hrant Nazaryan, and Alvina Gyulumyan are not members or judges of the CC.

Three new judges of the CC must be elected within two months.

All state bodies of Armenia are obliged to take note of this reality and be guided by it."

In the meantime, a rally was held in front of the Constitutional Court of Armenia last night right after the decision came into force.

"The current authorities have gone the way of privatizing the Constitutional Court," one of the protesters said.
