The Azerbaijani venture was followed by the adequate and satisfactory response of our armed forces. This is what deputy of the My Step faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Tigran Ulikhanyan told reporters today, talking about Azerbaijan’s attempt of penetration into Tavush Province and the current tension on the border.

“The borders of the Republic of Armenia have been, are and will be impregnable,” the deputy stated.

Asked about the reason for this tension since this time the provocation is on the borders of Armenia, not Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), Ulikhanyan said this isn’t the first time there are provocations on the borders of Armenia, yet failed to state the reason.

“I suppose it is due to the domestic political situation in Azerbaijan. Since the military-political leadership considers its positions in the political arena weakened and is trying to restore or somehow strengthen its positions, it is doing this to show the internal audience that Azerbaijan is in a stressful situation and needs unity. In essence, this doesn’t interest Armenia. Armenia’s objective is to keep its borders impregnable, and our armed forces are doing that,” he said.

Touching upon the domestic political factor, the deputy stated that he gets the impression that some people aren’t well aware of the fact that there will be an adequate counterattack against any major military operation targeted against Armenia. He added that Armenia is a sovereign country, and it can and might even need to take punitive actions in order to defend its borders.
