Updates on Armenian-Azerbaijani border tensions, Armenia has 33,005 COVID-19 cases, 15.07.20 digest

Armenian News - NEWS.am presents a daily digest of Armenia-related top news as of 15.07.2020:

• A situation at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border has aggravated after the Azerbaijani Armed Forces attempted to violate Armenia's state border on Sunday.

The Armenian side has already reported four soldiers' deaths.

They were posthumously awarded, said Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his Facebook.

According to the Armenian defense ministry spokesperson, ten servicemen are currently receiving medical treatment.

Shushan Stepanyan also noted that "starting from 00:15 am of July 14 the situation on NE part of Armenian-Azerbaijani border has been relatively calm. No artillery was used."

"Around 10 to 11 pm Armenian Armed Forces shot two unmanned aerial combat vehicle of Azerbaijani side," she added.

• Armenian parliament MPs honored memory of heroes killed in battles with Azerbaijan with a minute of silence.

"Eternal glory to the heroes," parliament's speaker Ararat Mirzoyan noted.

• In the wake of the worst Azerbaijani cross-border attacks against Armenia in years, the US House is set to consider a number of pro-peace amendments to a major Pentagon authorization bill, including one that would block U.S. defense transfers to Azerbaijan, the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) reported.

“With Azerbaijan escalating its cross-border attack, these amendments offer Congrsomeortunity to confront and constrain Aliyev’s aggression,” said ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian.

House votes are expected on these amendments as early as the morning of Monday, July 20.

• Armenia has confirmed 515 COVID-19 new cases, bringing the total number to 33,005, the health ministry reported.

The death toll in Armenia has reached 592.

The total number of tests conducted is 139,220 - 2,418 new tests in a day.

In the meantime, 10,876 patients are currently being treated.

According to the latest data, 21,348 people have recovered.

• A bomb threat was reported Wednesday in the Blue Mosque of Yerevan, Armenian ministry of emergency situations reported.

Rescuers examined the entire area, both inside and out, but no bomb has been found.

It has already been the fifth false bomb threat in Yerevan since the beginning of July.
