During today’s session, the Armenian government decided to nominate Vahram Avetisyan as a judge of the Constitutional Court.

During the session, Avetisyan said if he was elected judge of the Constitutional Court, he would do everything possible to make sure judges of the Constitutional Court are independent, apolitical and impartial and to ensure the role of the Constitutional Court in strengthening and enhancing democracy.

“We all know that democracy and democratic values are not solid and sustainable values, and approaches change along with the development of society. This means the Constitutional Court must act with this logic and effectively ensure harmonious activities of the legislature, government and judiciary and the effective process of determining the constitutionality of regulatory acts.

Since I wasn’t aware that I had to give a speech today, I will try to present my approaches to specific phenomena through questions,” he said, adding that he will present his approaches in more detail in parliament.

At the request of the Prime Minister, Avetisyan presented his life and career, stated that he has served as a senior investigator and is currently the Head of the Chair of Civil Law at Yerevan State University, adding that he believes he has the required professional knowledge and experience to perform the duties of a judge of the Constitutional Court properly.
