The Department for the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency and Domestic Violence of Armenia received information that on July 9, a man living in Kotayk Province had bought a newborn girl for $1,500 from a maternity hospital in Ararat Province—and in order to adopt her.

It was found out that this man had come to an agreement—through a common acquaintance—with a woman living in Ararat Province, who gave birth on July 9.

After the birth, they had submitted false information to the civil registry office, on the basis of which this newborn was given the last name of the man who is not her biological father.

It was found out also that this man had given tens of thousands of drams to the biological mother of this child, promising that he would give more money in the future.

An investigation into this incident is in progress.
