I was certain that we had won on April 5, but based on the situation, I couldn’t announce our victory. We would have fewer benefits and more damages. This is what third President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan told reporters today, touching upon a journalist’s comment that he had avoided using the word ‘victory’ during an interview with certain media outlets on the plane in May 2016, but is now talking about victory and in response to a question what had changed over the past years.

“Armenia also needed to have an advantage in diplomacy and a document that would state our longstanding work, and we obtained that document. Do you think it was more important for us to talk about our great victory, irritate the people of Azerbaijan and their leader so that they have a rough position around the negotiating table? Of course, this might have been useful for the internal audience, but I’m certain, and you are also certain that I didn’t work for the internal audience much because I wanted to see the major issues of my country solved. This is more important than having the internal audience be on your job than to protect the reputation. This is my essence, I couldn’t have acted differently,” Sargsyan emphasized.
