YEREVAN. – According to preliminary data, Wednesday morning’s natural gas explosion in a Yerevan building took place in the apartment of Edgar Margaryan, 41, the person who is in critical condition (PHOTOS).
His neighbors who were gathered at the courtyard of the building told Armenian News-NEWS.am that Margaryan's son, Erik, had spent the night in a friend's house for the first time in his life and was saved.
"The family’s woman is not here, and the 9th-grader girl is at the house of her grandma in Etchmiadzin [town]; that’s what we know that from the neighbors," said a resident.
They also mentioned that Edgar Margaryan is a taxi driver.
As reported earlier, the National Center for Crisis Management of Armenia received a report Wednesday morning that an explosion had taken place in a Yerevan building due to a natural gas leak, and the building had partially collapsed.
Rescuers have pulled out three persons from the rubble, but one of them has died, and 19 others were evacuated.
The two injured were hospitalized. Doctors say one of them—Svetlana S. (born in 1949)—is in moderate condition, whereas the other—Edgar Margaryan, 41—is in critical condition.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Minister of Emergency Situations Feliks Tsolakyan were also at the scene.
