YEREVAN. – The candidate for deputy mayor of Yerevan is the assistant of Yerjanik Hakobyan, an MP of majority My Step faction of the National Assembly of Armenia. Davit Khazhakyan, head of the opposition Luys faction of the Yerevan Council of the Elders, said this during a press conference on Monday.

He noted that the issue of the deputy mayor will be discussed during the council’s meeting slated for September, and the name of the respective candidate has already been circulated in the press. "I'm surprised that they did not nominate a person from within the [majority My Step] faction [of the Yerevan municipal council] because there were people in their faction who were active members of the council of the elders (…), and they took them to much lower positions (…),” Khazhakyan added.

In February, Hayk Sargsyan had resigned as Deputy Mayor of Yerevan.
