YEREVAN. – On August 9, an RFE/RL journalist reported that on August 8, former Chief of Police of Armenia Vladimir Gasparyan had obstructed her and her camera crew's professional activities while preparing a report on the illegal structures along the shores of Lake Sevan, and had threatened to use violence against them.
On August 9, the police opened a criminal case in connection with this incident, and under the Criminal Code article on obstructing the legal professional activity of a journalist, and an investigation is in progress in this regard.
And now the press service of the Investigative Committee of Armenia has informed that considering that information on new crimes has been obtained in the aforementioned criminal case, a new criminal case has been initiated for not taking measures in accordance with the law in order to stop and prevent the unauthorized construction of official buildings and structures as well as of official falsifications.
An investigation into this new case is underway.
