Armenia doesn’t form the function of opening a border or decide who should be allowed to enter Russia. This is what High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan told citizens wishing to depart for the Russian Federation, who held another protest in front of the government today.

Sinanyan stated that the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs has no power to deal with such issues. “The Office doesn’t lead negotiations. It deals with Armenia-Diaspora relations. These citizens can’t return for objective reasons, and this is due to the coronavirus pandemic. You need to address the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Commandant’s Office,” Sinanyan said as he addressed the citizens.

Asked if the Armenian side isn’t taking actions to solve the issue, Sinanyan expressed certainty that Armenia is definitely taking actions.

For nearly six months, citizens of the Russian Federation, as well as persons holding citizenship of Armenia want to leave Armenia and hold protests with the demand for opening of the closed borders. They also demand that the Government of Armenia take action.
