YEREVAN. – This draft allows for the transition from a state of emergency to a more lenient one that will enable to guarantee the protection of the rights of the individual under more normal conditions, at the same time, it specifies appropriate mechanisms whereby it is possible to prevent the further spread of the infection. Vladimir Vardanyan, a member of the majority My Step faction of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, noted this in a talk with journalists in the parliament Thursday, referring to the package included in the agenda of the NA special session, and whose adoption will allow maintaining some coronavirus-related restrictions, but without extending the current respective state of emergency in the country.

"There are such drafts in many countries around the world, and our international partners had called us for a transition from a state of emergency to a more lenient one, provided that the sanitary-epidemiological situation allows such a transition," he said.

And asked whether the adoption of this law will allow quarantine to be announced in Armenia at any time, Vardanyan responded: "Now an attempt is being made to move to a more lenient regime. Any curtailing of human rights needs to be legitimate, not be an end in itself. At the moment, there is a legitimate goal: the protection of public health."
