COVID-19 quarantine established in Armenia until January, 20 people die of alcohol poisoning, 11.09.20 digest

Armenian News - NEWS.am presents a daily digest of Armenia-related top news as of 11.09.2020:

• A total of 179 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Armenia, and the total number of these cases has reached 45,505 in the country.

Also, three more deaths from COVID-19 were registered, making the respective total 909 cases.

The number of people who have recovered over the past one day is 201, the total respective number so far is 41,434, and the number of people currently being treated is 2,880.

• A coronavirus-related quarantine has been established in Armenia from Friday until January 11, 2021. Such a decision was made today at the special meeting of the government.

The decision states that the government decides to establish quarantine in Armenia from September 11, 2020 to January 11, 2021 inclusive.

In the meantime, Artsakh president Arayik Haroutyunyan on Friday signed a decree and extended the emergency situation for 30 more days — from September 11 to October 11.

• A total of 46 cases of alcohol poisoning—from methanol—were registered in Armenia between August 31 and September 11, 20 of them were fatal, whereas 25 victims were discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment, according to the Ministry of Health.

One patient is still receiving treatment at a Yerevan medical center, and doctors say this person is in critical condition.

• The Armenian police commented on the statement of the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan on the initiation to search two Armenian officers.

The police say that according to the report on September 11, Interpol does not search Vazgen Vardanyan and Armen Jamalyan.

The NCB of Interpol in Armenia constantly monitors for a timely and adequate response to such initiatives of the competent authorities of Azerbaijan. And if such issues arise, it immediately gives an adequate answer and submits justifications and arguments to the General Secretariat of Interpol.

• Apraham Tovmassian, a member of the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia (ASALA), has died in a car accident in Lebanon.

The respective statement issued by ASALA has informed that on September 14, a requiem service in Tovmassian's memory will be held at Yerablur Military Pantheon in Yerevan.
