At Monday’s meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Russia, the main focus will be on the development of the situation which has become a real threat to the security of the region. Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan stated this during the ceremony of starting the meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. To note, the Armenian FM is in Moscow on an official visit.

During the meeting the parties will discuss the whole spectrum of Armenian-Russian relations.

The Armenian FM emphasized that the main focus of this meeting will be put to the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict zone. "What our compatriots have confronted in Nagorno-Karabakh is the embodiment of an existential threat which we have said about and which has developed over several decades," said Mnatsakanyan.

He noted that a certain result was achieved at the recent trilateral meeting which took place last week on the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The FM stressed that the Armenian side highly appreciates the role of Russia and the contribution of the Russian president and FM. "First of all, it is necessary to stop the hostilities. Azerbaijan is not fulfilling its [respective] obligations," he said, adding that appropriate mechanisms need to be put in place.

The Armenian FM stated that the large-scale aggression of Azerbaijan against the people of Artsakh has revealed Azerbaijan’s real goals: the physical annihilation of the people of Artsakh. “Azerbaijan ignores calls for the separation of civilian and military facilities; by the way, it places military facilities in the area of the civilian population,” Zohrab Mnatsakanyan added.
