A couple of days after the war broke out, I asked the Prime Minister to have a meeting with the Council of the National Assembly, and the meeting was held yesterday, 14 days after the war broke out. This is what leader of the Bright Armenia faction of the National Assembly Edmon Marukyan told reporters today, adding that he can’t provide details since the meeting was held yesterday.
“The Prime Minister presented the situation, the members of the Council addressed their questions to the Prime Minister and foreign minister. We are all concerned about the war. The situation is very complicated. This is a war, and the fate of our state and all Armenians is being determined on the battlefield,” he said.
Touching upon the meeting of the Russian and Armenian foreign ministers, Marukyan noted that this was a pre-planned meeting. “This is simply another opportunity to use the existing leverages in Moscow. As far as the ceasefire is concerned, we all know that there is no ceasefire, the battles continue. Therefore, Armenian diplomats have a lot of work to do,” he said, adding that Armenia’s parliamentary forces are working with their leverages.
“The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is holding an enlarged meeting devoted to the war in Nagorno-Karabakh. I hope we MPs can give two or three speeches. There will be heated battles. A short while ago, I signed a document stating that recognition of the independence of Artsakh is becoming the only path to protection of the right of the people of Artsakh to life.”
