During a conversation with reporters in parliament today, Minister of Justice of Armenia Rustam Badasyan said what Armenia substantively gets out of the detention and questioning of terrorist mercenaries from Syria.

“Besides the evidence obtained under the case of the detained terrorist mercenaries, there is more information. For instance, the heads or foreign ministers of three states have acknowledged the presence of Syrian mercenaries in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. This may entail consequences. First of all, certain procedures are envisaged under various conventions, including the International Convention against the Recruitment, Use, Financing and Training of Mercenaries,” he said, adding that the Armenian government is rather thoroughly considering all the legal procedures.

Asked if the government is considering applying to the court in The Hague, the minister asked to not rush since the Office of the Representative of Armenia before the European Court of Human Rights mainly deals with such issues. “We are in contact and will provide information when there are sufficient grounds or when the time comes to launch a procedure,” the minister said.
