The foreign minister probably meant that Turkey would always bring up the so-called ‘occupation’ of Nagorno-Karabakh as an excuse for the closed borders. This is what deputy of the My Step faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Hovhannes Igityan told reporters today, touching upon yesterday’s statement by Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ara Aivazian who said Turkey has no reason to keep the border with Armenia closed any longer.

Igityan added that, in his opinion, the fact that the borders are currently closed isn’t only linked to the consequences of the war in Nagorno-Karabakh. “It seems to me the relations between Armenia and Turkey are very far from being friendly. There have to be changes in Turkey so that Armenia sees the latter as simply a country, not to mention a neighboring one," he said..

Asked if Armenia has a demand from Turkey, particularly recognition of the Armenian Genocide, Igityan said Armenia isn’t demanding Turkey’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide since the Armenian Genocide has already been recognized by many major countries and international organizations. “Armenia isn’t evaluating the happenings, and what happened is that Azerbaijan violated all agreements, Turkey violated all resolutions and international law and directly participated in the war by using the most modern weapons of NATO. Turkey also used jihadist mercenaries. Armenia should have formed an agenda in order to fix the situation,” he emphasized.
