Head of Armenia's Chamber of Advocates Ara Zohrabyan has spoken on the suspicion of committing high treason.
In the residence of the Nor-Nork court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan, the complaint of lawyers about the inaction of the Special Investigation Service (SIS) is being considered, while protests in defense of lawyers are being held in the courtyard.
Ara Zohrabyan detailed what the matter is about. He recalled that on December 22, lawyers submitted a crime report to the Prosecutor General, in which they indicated the grounds for accusing PM Nikol Pashinyan of high treason.
“The General Prosecutor's Office has passed the message to the SIS. If there are grounds for initiating a criminal case, then the Special Investigation Service was obliged to make a decision to initiate a criminal case. The SIS can make 3 decisions: initiate a case, refuse to initiate, or send under jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, they replied with a letter, notifying that our message was attached to the materials of the criminal case initiated in connection with the statements of Movses Hakobyan [senior Armenian military official], and will be investigated within the case.
We challenge their inaction in court and asked the court to eliminate the violation of our rights. That is, it is necessary to oblige the SIS to make the proper decision. If the facts presented by us do not testify to obvious betrayal, then the initiation of a criminal case should be refused."
Referring to the content of the message they presented, Zohrabyan said: "It presents all the events that took place before the war."
On December 22, 2020, over 100 lawyers submitted a message to the Armenian Prosecutor General with a request to initiate a criminal case on the fact of committing a criminal act amid high treason. The report referred to events that took place before the war, during the war and after the war, which apparently indicate the possibility of high treason.
