The Faculty of Geography and Geology at Yerevan State University today opened classrooms named after Suren Melikbekyan and Alexan Simonyan, who fell in the war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
“Aleksan’s and Suren’s souls will always be in these classrooms,” Dean of the Faculty Marat Grigoryan said.
The last time Suren Melikbekyan talked to his relatives was on September 27, and his body was found in November.
“Suren was studying at Yerevan State University without a tuition fee and graduated with honors, after which he was enlisted in the army as a contractual soldier,” Suren Melikbekyan’s childhood friend Nareh Tsaturyan said.
During the war, Aleksan Simonyan was moved from Martakert to Tchartar village of Martuni region. He died on October 30 from the strike of an unmanned aerial vehicle in Tchartar village.
