make preferableYEREVAN. – There is no factual data to prove that Ara Saghatelyan, the former Chief of Staff of the National Assembly of Armenia, had agreed to form a criminal band with some people. Hakob Yenokyan, one of Saghatelyan's attorneys, said this in a conversation with reporters in the court yard.
A while ago, the court made a decision to have Saghatelyan arrested.
"I do not imagine what should be mentioned in the court decision because during the discussion there were such grounds, factual data which are just assumptions of vivid imagination," said Yenokyan, adding that they will appeal this court decision to the Criminal Court of Appeal.
Referring to the initiated criminal case, the lawyer said that the investigative body formulated the accusation in such a way as to avoid individualization.
Yenokyan said that Saghatelyan's other lawyer, Mihran Poghosyan, had motioned for the recusal of the body conducting the proceedings.
The National Security Service has arrested former Chief of Staff of the National Assembly Ara Saghatelyan, co-founder of Quartet Media—and ex-MP— Karen Bekaryan, manager of the office of the "International Center for the Development of Parliamentarism" NGO Mher Avagyan, and citizen Aram Sargsyan.
Aram Sargsyan was detained by a court decision, whereas Mher Avagyan was released.
They were detained under the Criminal Code articles on inciting hostility by an organized group, making public calls for violence by an organized group, publicly justifying or propagating violence, and violating the rules for publishing or disseminating information during martial law.
