YEREVAN. – The latest arrests are aimed at discrediting the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia, as it turns out that this department abandoned all important cases during the [recent Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)] war and was engaged in looking for “fake” social media accounts. Gohar Meloyan, an expert on constitutional law, told about this to a press conference on Monday.
She added that even after the arrest of the “user” of a “fake” social media account, posts continued to appear on this account, which is strange and raises questions.
According to her, this is an open political persecution, as Ara Saghatelyan, the former Chief of Staff of the National Assembly, has always been a horror for the propaganda of Turkey and Azerbaijan. "This is yet another proof that the [incumbent Armenian] government serves the interests of Azerbaijan and Turkey. Moreover, they are going to introduce specialized courts so that the latter make decisions that are convenient to them," Meloyan said.
She noted that the serving Armenian government responded to the opposition's criticism, but it is silent when the president of Azerbaijan mocks the PM of Armenia.
The constitutional law expert added that the arrests on February 19—a day before the rally of the Armenian opposition—had the opposite effect for the government, as such lawlessness by the latter led to more people taking to the streets.
