The meeting between a delegation from the Homeland Salvation Movement—which demands the resignation of Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan—and President Armen Sarkissian has just ended.
After the meeting, Artur Vanetsyan, the leader of the Homeland Party—which is part of the aforesaid movement, told reporters: "We met with the President. During the meeting, issues related to sending the [PM Pashinyan’s] petition for dismissal of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces to the Constitutional Court were discussed. The President listened to our views and said that he will announce his decision in the coming hours. He said that he would take note of our words and fulfill his constitutional powers."
Vanetsyan added that the President did not say anything about why he did not apply to the Constitutional Court regarding the petition to dismiss the head of the General Staff.
As reported earlier, chairman of the Homeland Party Artur Vanetsyan, Artsvik Minasyan from the ARF-Dashnaktsutyun Party, Vahram Baghdasaryan from the former ruling Republican Party of Armenia, and ex-PM Vazgen Manukyan—the Homeland Salvation Movement’s candidate for PM, took part in the meeting in the meeting with President Armen Sarkissian.
The President's Office announced on Tuesday that the President will not sign the decree on dismissing Onik Gasparyan from the post of Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, but will petition to the Constitutional Court to determine not the constitutionality of the respective draft decree submitted by PM Pashinyan, but the constitutionality of the Law on Military Service and Status of Serviceman.
