YEREVAN. – A group of citizens are picketing outside the office of the President of Armenia on Tuesday.

Ara Zohrabyan, Chairman of the Chamber of Advocates of Armenia, told as follows to reporters there: "We have launched a submission of demand to the President of the republic. (…). Our Constitution stipulates that the President is the head of the state and he oversees the observance of the Constitution. This means that if he sees violations of the Constitution, he must exercise his powers."

Zohrabyan recall that the President had returned the Prime Minister's motion to dismiss the chief of the General Staff, noting that it evidently does not comply with Section 3 of Article 155 of the Constitution, and also noted that dismissing the chief of the General Staff could result in the disruption of the normal functioning of this important structure.

"The Prime Minister had not accepted the President's objection and had sent the petition again [to the President]. In this case, the President can sign the decree, or can apply to the Constitutional Court to challenge the Prime Minister's proposal. The President has already stated that he will not sign the decree. But his attitude shows that he is in no hurry to apply to the Constitutional Court. Today is the last day he can apply to the Constitutional Court. It turns out that the President has chosen the path of inaction," added the chairman of the Chamber of Advocates.
