Snap parliamentary elections need to be held as soon as possible. This is what leader of the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan told the presses today.

“The current situation needs to be solved. There is a pandemic, economic crisis, war, victims, injured, missing servicemen and 50,000 homeless Armenians of Artsakh. People are concerned about national security. There are no jobs and investments. The borders have been opened, and we see people who want to leave the country. All this has a negative impact on the country, people and economy,” he said.

Touching upon the holding of snap parliamentary elections and asked if he has behind-the-scenes meetings with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Tsarukyan said all presses would know about his meeting with Pashinyan. “I met with the members of the opposition Homeland Salvation Movement and shared my views with them. I have the right to express my view and present a plan. The members of the Movement have different views, and I have my opinion,” he said.

Asked if he envisions snap parliamentary elections under the leadership of Nikol Pashinyan, Tsarukyan said the snap parliamentary elections need to be held after the Prime Minister resigns.

Touching upon the effectiveness of the actions of the opposition Homeland Salvation Movement, Tsarukyan said the following: “If it wasn’t for the Movement, I don’t think the issue of snap parliamentary elections would be raised.”

Asked if he has discussions with the three ex-presidents of Armenia (Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan) on the options for a solution to the crisis, Tsarukyan gave an affirmative answer and added that they meet, hold discussions and share different opinions, but share the opinion that is substantiated and accepted.
