By proposing to lift martial law, we wanted to ease the tension in the country, but the authorities maintained the tension by rejecting the proposal, and if they continue like this, the tension will grow. This is what secretary of the opposition Prosperous Armenia faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Arman Abovyan told reporters today and viewed this as the authorities ‘inadequate assessment of the situation’.
When told that keeping Marshal Baghramyan Avenue closed is a violation of people’s rights, Abovyan noted that people should also talk about the violation of rights of citizens of Armenia in Shurnukh and citizens who see Turkish and Azerbaijani forces when they travel through Goris.
Abovyan agreed that the votes of the two opposition factions won’t be enough to express lack of confidence in the Prime Minister after martial law is lifted and that martial law also implies restrictions on holding elections.
Asked if Prosperous Armenia Party agrees to snap elections under the administration of Nikol Pashinyan, Abovyan didn’t clarify, but said the following: “The members of the opposition Homeland Salvation Movement have united around one idea, that is, Nikol Pashinyan resignation, after which there will be elections. Every political party has the right to express its view. Nikol Pashinyan needs to resign, after which there will be snap elections. This will make things clear.”
