The National Assembly (NA) of Armenia has convened a special sitting Monday, on the agenda of which is the matter of electing a new prime minister.

Acting PM Nikol Pashinyan, who has been nominated for the aforesaid post, was not elected to this position at the May 3 special session of the NA.

If the only candidate, Pashinyan, is not elected PM today either, the NA will be dissolved and special parliamentary elections will be called.

Unlike the May 3 sitting, however, this time the right to nominate a PM candidate does not belong to the NA factions, but to one-third of the MPs. Nikol Pashinyan has been nominated for the post of Prime Minister by virtually all members of the majority My Step faction.

As reported earlier, Pashinyan stepped down on April 25 as premier so that the NA later does not elect a new PM twice, after which the legislature shall dissolve and snap parliamentary elections be held on June 20.

According to the respective scenario, the NA will not elect Nikol Pashinyan as Prime Minister on Monday.
