Baku will definitely demand demarcation at an accelerated pace, Second President of Armenia Robert Kocharian told representatives of the healthcare sector.
"As far as I understand, no one is ready to take any steps to protect the country's borders. The only reason for what is happening in Syunik and Gegharkunik provinces is that if you have a border, then you must defend it with your armed forces. It's about how tightly your forces are together and where your positions are," he noted. "If you are going to place a position 5 km from the border, in the depths of your territory, the enemy will definitely advance and stand in front of you. Who are you complaining about?"
"After the war, it was necessary to create opportunities for our armed forces to recruit a sufficient number of contract soldiers and deploy with sufficient density throughout the border."
"The Armenian authorities can theoretically declare martial law and postpone the elections, but cannot cancel them, since the Constitution does not provide for a mechanism that could turn everything back," he added. "During the martial law, elections cannot take place, but during this time it is necessary to take some steps to protect the borders."
