We probably had this shortcoming during our rule: we had relatively little contact with people, we spoke little about what we had done, and perhaps what happened in April 2018 [i.e., the revolution in Armenia] was also due to that. If I say directly: the connection with the people was cut off to some extent. Third President Serzh Sargsyan stated this during Sunday meeting with the active members of the "I have the honor" bloc, which will run in the snap parliamentary elections on June 20, and local residents in Jermuk town of Vayots Dzor Province of Armenia.
"At the same time, however, we [the preceding authorities] have not lied, we have not manipulated people, we have not divided our society into 'blacks' and 'whites,' rich and poor, 'new' and 'old' [authorities]. On the contrary, we wanted to unite people because it is simply a necessity, especially in our case. A divided people cannot support their army, cannot support those who ensure their safety, and, if necessary, join their ranks," added the third President.
