A certain amount of animals will be acquired in order to increase effectiveness of the work of the Border Guard Services of Armenia. Visiting the Armenian-Georgian border is enough to understand why those animals will be acquired. This is what Deputy Director of the National Security Service of Armenia Aram Hakobyan said in response to opposition MPs’ questions during a discussion on the draft of the 2022 State Budget held as part of today’s joint session of standing parliamentary committees.

The National Security Service will acquire not only dogs, but also horses. In addition, it was stated that other animals will also be added to the set of the animals that Armenian border guards use during service. Moreover, there is nothing mentioned about the type of animals, and Hakobyan also skillfully dodged this question by saying that the Service will keep a certain type of animals.

In his turn, Chair of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly, deputy of the ruling “Civil Contract” faction Andranik Kocharyan stated that this isn’t the first time service animals are being used to protect the country’s borders.
