We really need to learn lessons from the 30-year road we have traveled through and which brought us to this ceasefire agreement. Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, on Tuesday told this to reporters in the NA.

"I do not want to give assessments because the assessments are known. I can say that this is another opportunity for us to redefine and move forward after learning from our mistakes. We have to analyze still for a long time, we cannot disregard this great pain because we have paid a very high price for our mistakes; we still have to look, remember, grasp for a long time. And in that sense, I attach great importance to the idea of setting up the Committee of Inquiry, which was put forward by us and shall be set up. This work is very important, the results of which can play a decisive role for the future of our state," Simonyan said, adding that the aforesaid committee shall have results and take concrete actions.

“The work of the committee will start soon when we will determine that there are no obstacles for the work of the committee. The committee will definitely work," he said.

And to the question as to what extent this Committee of Inquiry will be objective, Alen Simonyan responded: "And why shouldn't an objective inquiry be carried out? The committee is free to call everyone [for questioning]. The list of [respective] invitees will be very large. I am sure that it will be a very productive work. By and large, many, many things are already known. The work of the committee will already substantiate in a much more substantiated way what has already been said—both in the pre-election and post-election period.”
