Today the opposition “Armenia” and “With Honor” factions of the National Assembly of Armenia undertook the initiative to convene a special plenary session to discuss the current situation on the border so that government officials, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, give clarifications to the parliament.

However, the special session won’t be held since the issue wasn’t discussed during the session of the Council of the National Assembly.

After the session, Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan informed that a draft document needed to be submitted for consideration during the session of the Council, but, according to him, the document was incomplete from the legal perspective. “They [the opposition] bring the documents to convene a plenary session, but it turns out that they haven’t stated who the reporter will be. Let them bring a document, and the session will be held,” he added.

During the conversation with reporters, secretary of the “Armenia” faction Artsvik Minasyan and Alen Simonyan started debating over the procedure for convening a special session and considering the issue during the session of the Council of the National Assembly.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, member of “Armenia” faction Ishkhan Saghtelyan claimed that the political majority misused its powers and made sure the session is not held. “The authorities rejected our proposal. We’re not going to discuss budget-related issues because there are other issues facing the country. There is simply no alternative to Pashinyan’s resignation. We will do everything to achieve this, both in parliament and out of parliament. “Armenia” faction considered the parliamentary mandates an important tool for the struggle, but if we see that it is no longer effective, we will drop those mandates. Having mandates can’t keep us away from implementing our agendas on the streets,” Saghatelyan stated.
